Valencia CF received another award for the club's Centenary this Tuesday, as Paterna mayor Juan Antonio Sagredo presented president Anil Murthy with the Gold Insignia on behalf of the town council. The award is a recognition of the club's sporting trajectory, as well as their representation of Valencian values and social, cultural and charitable efforts through the VCF Foundation.
Paterna is the location for Valencia CF's Ciudad Deportiva training ground, and has been so since the club bought land there in 1974.
"Many stars have come through the VCF Academy since then, such as David Silva, and others have been born here, like Javier Subirats," said Mr. Murthy upon collecting the award.
"This year we have celebrated 100 years of history, but we continue with this project. We don't want people to only speak about Valencia CF's history; we want them to talk about our present and our future. For us, the VCF Academy is the future of Valencia CF. We are going to continue investing in young players at the Ciudad Deportiva, which we want to extend to bring in the best talents from the Valencian region."
The VCF president also spoke about the club's current form, saying that "After the changes we have made, we have continued to fight. In LaLiga we are two points off the Champions League spots, and in this year's Champions League itself we are battling to get past the group stage. I am optimistic about the fact that we are going in the right direction. We want to be a sustainable club and the VCF Academy here, in Paterna, is the future," he concluded, receiving a round of applause.
